For students with distinct educational needs

Placer County Office of Education challenged us to create two distinct spaces in one building for students with very separate and distinct educational needs. This adaptive re-use of an existing commercial office building for educational use houses two County-dependent Charters: the I-Care Program for at-risk middle and high school students, and the I-Learn home-school program. We met PCOE’s challenge by designing classrooms with natural daylighting, SMART technology, and tablet-based audiovisual systems and lighting controls arranged around a shared hub area for social interaction, presentations, and breakout sessions. Additional spaces include a 160-seat professional development and staff resource room, administrative office, and office docking areas for traveling staff and administration.
