Galt Market Community Plan
Galt, California
Due to the changing consumer habits of current generations, the revenue generated by the open-air wholesale Galt Market has steadily declined over several years. As the City’s Parks & Recreation Department is primarily dependent on these revenues, the City of Galt commissioned a study to explore future uses for this property that would yield a significant benefit for the community.
Funded through a federal energy grant, Williams + Paddon worked with City of Galt staff and department leaders to create a future vision for 44 acres of city-owned land and surrounding private properties. Williams + Paddon also worked with the community through public meetings and surveys to solicit ideas on the desired community amenities. This data informed the development of an approximate 10-acre central park, connections to Old Town through enhanced pedestrian greenways, community support facilities, increasing commercial uses, hospitality, and a mix of housing typologies to support all generations of the community. This future vision was illustrated through a masterplan document, series of site plans & diagrams, and renderings of the potential development.
