Sonrisa is the first project to break ground under Governor Newsom’s Executive Order (EO) N-06-19 for Affordable Housing Development. The 58 microunits are being designed as high-quality spaces that efficiently provide 250-350 SF per unit. The project also provides 1,300 SF of shared common areas and outdoor seating.
Williams + Paddon and the Capitol Area Development Authority (CADA) explored many construction systems and methods with the owner in order to find a cost-effective solution that responds to changes in building code. The building is being designed to utilize Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) which complies with CBC building Type 4 construction and greatly minimizes the embodied carbon which would be found in other more traditional construction methods.
